What Is Nashville Like on a Weekday vs a Weekend?
- 3 sections
- 2 tables
- 6 sources cited
On weekends, and especially on Friday and Saturday nights, Lower Broadway fills with groups, and hotel rooms, restaurant tables, and rideshares are harder to get. On weekdays the same places are calmer, but the calendar changes too: some museums close on certain weekdays, the WeGo Star commuter train runs only on weekdays, and the Grand Ole Opry’s schedule shifts from week to week. The best choice depends on whether you want the full Broadway scene or easier access to everything else.
What Changes on Weekends
- Lower Broadway at night. Friday and Saturday nights draw big crowds, including bachelorette and other celebration groups. If you want that energy, weekends deliver it; if you want to hear the band, a weeknight or a weekend afternoon is easier.
- Rooms and reservations. Room rates and restaurant waits can rise on weekends, especially around brunch. Book early for a Friday or Saturday, and compare weekend and weeknight rates if your dates are flexible.
- Neighborhoods. Brunch in East Nashville, Germantown, and 12 South can mean a wait on weekends; for weeknight plans, check the calendars of their bars and music rooms.
What Changes on Weekdays
Weekdays are not simply quieter versions of weekends, because some schedules depend on the day. As of October 2026:
| Place or service | Weekday detail |
|---|---|
| Tennessee State Museum | Closed Mondays; open Tuesday to Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday 1 to 5 p.m. |
| Frist Art Museum | Closed Tuesday and Wednesday; open late (to 8 p.m.) on Thursday |
| National Museum of African American Music | Monday noon to 5 p.m.; Tuesday to Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; free gallery admission on the first Wednesday of each month |
| Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum | Open daily 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. |
| WeGo Star commuter train | Runs weekday mornings and afternoons only |
| Grand Ole Opry | Shows on weekdays as well as weekends; late October 2026 listings include Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday shows |
Each schedule is from the place’s own site: tnmuseum.org, fristartmuseum.org, nmaam.org, the Hall of Fame, WeGo Star, and opry.com.
Check each schedule for your exact dates; holidays and special events change them.
Which Should You Choose?
| If you want | Go on |
|---|---|
| Broadway at full volume | Friday or Saturday night |
| To hear the music and talk with your group | A weeknight, or a weekend afternoon |
| Lower room rates | Sunday through Thursday nights, outside big-event weeks |
| Museums without a crowd | A weekday morning, after checking which museums are open that day |
| A big festival atmosphere | The festival weekend itself, such as CMA Fest |
One compromise is to arrive on a Thursday and leave on Saturday or Sunday, which gives you one weeknight for listening rooms and museums and one weekend night for Broadway. For more on choosing dates across the year, see the best time to visit Nashville.
