Which East Nashville Coffee Shop Has the Best Local Roast?

The Infatuation’s citywide coffee guide does not rank shops by their roasts, so pick by the cup and the room. That guide, titled “The 18 Best Coffee Shops In Nashville” and updated April 30, 2026, includes five East Nashville shops (The Infatuation). Four are still in East Nashville: one of the five, Earl Espresso, has since moved from its Gallatin Pike counter to 1721 21st Ave S in Hillsboro Village (Nashville Guru). Of the four, Haraz Coffee House stands out for a specific drink, Yemeni coffee. If a locally roasted bean is what matters to you, ask at the counter who roasts the coffee.
East Nashville Shops in the Guide
| Shop | Address | What the guide says |
|---|---|---|
| Haraz Coffee House | 901 Woodland St | Yemeni coffee, such as the Harazi Mufawar with cardamom and cream, plus mosaic cake; tagged for sitting outside and kids |
| Retrograde Coffee | 1305 Dickerson Pike | an old garage turned coffeehouse, with espresso tonics and breakfast sandwiches |
| Momento East | 347 Douglas Ave | the second Momento, in the old All People Coffee space, with room to work all day |
| Ugly Mugs Coffee And Tea | 1886 Eastland Ave | a close-knit neighborhood shop; the guide says there are usually no seats or tables free |
Picking a Cup
- For something different, Haraz’s Yemeni coffee with cardamom.
- For a work session, Momento East.
- For breakfast with your coffee, Retrograde.
- For a neighborhood regular’s cup, Ugly Mugs, if you can find a seat.
Where to eat afterward is in the best restaurants in East Nashville, and what else the area offers is in what East Nashville is known for.
