Yes, BNA is one of the easier major airports to navigate in the United States. One terminal, clear signage, no trains or trams required between concourses for most gates, and a security checkpoint layout that most travelers clear without confusion. The BNA Vision expansion completed in early 2024 made it significantly better than the construction-era experience that frustrated passengers from roughly 2019 to 2023.
The Layout
BNA has one main terminal connected to five concourses: A, B, C, D, and T. All concourses connect via walkways inside the secure area. No internal tram is needed. Most connections take under 10 minutes on foot. The single exception is the satellite section of Concourse C, specifically gates C4 through C11, which requires a short shuttle ride from gate C13. If you have a gate in that satellite cluster, you need to know about it and allow extra time.
Concourse A is currently closed for a complete rebuild as part of the New Horizon expansion and will not reopen until July 2028. Airlines previously based in Concourse A have been redistributed to other concourses. Concourse B serves American, Delta, Frontier, and JetBlue. Concourse C is the largest, with 26 gates, and serves Southwest among others. Concourse D serves Southwest exclusively and has a Minute Suites pod area. The T Gates serve international arrivals and departures from British Airways, Air Canada, WestJet, and other international carriers.
Security
The main security checkpoint is on Level 3 of the terminal building, near the entrance to Concourse C. There are 24 TSA screening lanes in the expanded Grand Lobby, which opened in 2023. Dedicated TSA PreCheck and CLEAR lanes are available. Off-peak security takes 5 to 15 minutes. During peak morning and afternoon departure windows, budget 20 to 30 minutes. On extremely busy days such as holiday travel periods, wait times can reach 45 minutes.
The security checkpoint opens at 3:30am daily, which means early-morning departures can get through quickly with no line.
Arriving at BNA
Baggage claim is on Level 1, the ground floor. Ground transportation including rideshare, taxis, shuttles, and the WeGo bus pickup is a right turn out of the terminal, following the covered walkway to Terminal Garage 2, Level 1. Signage is clear. The covered pedestrian bridge connecting the terminal to the garage is roughly 695 feet long, which is relevant in rain or summer heat.
What Is Still Annoying
Rideshare pickup moved from the terminal curb to the Ground Transportation Center inside the garage as part of the New Horizon expansion. This is about a 5-minute walk from the baggage claim exit. Some passengers coming off a long flight with checked bags find this irritating. The signage has improved, but first-time visitors still sometimes wander in the wrong direction.
The satellite Concourse C gates remain the biggest navigation trap at BNA. If your boarding pass says C4 through C11, allow at least an extra 10 minutes to reach your gate. Many first-timers assume C gates are all in the same corridor and miss their shuttle.
Concourse A is completely closed for demolition and rebuild until July 2028 as part of New Horizon. Check your gate assignment carefully at BNA through 2028 rather than relying on remembered layouts from previous trips.
Parking Navigation
BNA has six parking options: Short-term garage, Terminal Garages 1 and 2, Terminal Lot A, Economy Lots B and C, and valet. Economy lots are about a mile from the terminal and require a shuttle. Short-term garage daily maximum runs around $30 and is the most convenient for meeting arrivals. The valet costs $40 per day and is accessed via Exit 216B from I-40.
The Bottom Line
BNA is significantly easier than Atlanta, Dallas, or Chicago. It is comparable to Denver or Dallas Love Field in terms of navigability. The post-BNA Vision terminal is better than almost any version of the airport that preceded it. The biggest source of confusion is the satellite C gates (C4 through C11), the rideshare pickup location for first-timers, and the Concourse A closure through July 2028. Know those three things before you arrive and BNA will not give you trouble.
